The Meaning Behind My New Song "World Stops."

I just dropped a new song and I'm looking forward to what awaits me in 2020! Are you? I wanted to give you the scoop on my new single and give you insights into my inspiration and message. So, I asked myself all the important questions so you don't have to!

What inspired World Stops ? I wrote this song after having some deep thoughts about the current state of our world. With all the drastic changes that have happened in pop culture, politics and the environment it made me think long and hard about our future as a globe. I also thought back to hard times I've had where I questioned life and where I asked "why am I here?" "who is in control?" and "why is there so much pain in the world?". As an empath, I definitely feel the weight of world on my shoulders and sometimes I just want it all to stop. I'd like to freeze time for a moment and fix everything. While that may not be possible, it's nice to imagine the bliss we'd have if we all stopped together and started together as a human collective.

What was the creative process like?

The song itself is not very complicated but the process was long. I often find myself bopping back and forth with ideas and leaving them alone to ferment before coming back and continuing. I've noticed this is a very organic process for me and while it's long, I try to be patient with myself and not fight it. I actually wrote the song in 2017 and played around with it for awhile before deciding to record it in 2018, reaching out to a friend and rapper Marantz Moon to work with me on it. Finally after a few setbacks I finished post production on the song and released it in 2019. I really live by the the motto "slow and steady" wins the race.

How much work was it to make this song? Again, despite the simplicity of the song, it was a lot of work! Because I'm entirely independent and can not rely on record label money, I did everything on my own. I wrote the song, engineered it, mixed it and mastered it. I played the synths, sang back-up vocals and added in little production elements here and there. It was like painting a landscape. I added layer upon layer until the picture was complete. I also designed my own album cover...basically I'm a one woman show. For all the sweat and tears, it's worth it to say that I know what it's like to operate every aspect of my art. It can be very empowering to hear the end product and be glad to know that I did the work on my own.

What is the meaning behind "World Stops"?

The meaning is what the listener wants to make of it. For me the artist, "World Stops" is about staying curious, and staying open. It's about being aware enough to take a pause in life. It's about being able to see the beauty that is our collective conscious existence and to know that we actually know very little...in fact there's more we don't know then we'd like to admit. I think that the "World Stops" is not about physical death or a ending of the world but rather ending of the world as we've been creating it up to this point, cultural. It's an collective ego death that I think is necessary to evolve. The song ends with the lyrics "stop running from life" in which I suggest that by prescribing to the superficiality of our world we are actually running from that which is right in front of us, the simplicity of existence. I think most people can agree that we live in a busy, stressful world and we often "don't have time" to stop. We make up excuses but all in all we are really just neglecting our true selves. Our true nature is perfection, we are perfect as we are, there is very little we need to do to achieve happiness. The more we convince ourselves that happiness lies outside of us, the more we are "running away" from ourselves and our chance at true happiness.

Will there be more songs like this in 2020?

For the most part yes. I've always been a thinker, a ponderer and sensitive person. It's impossible for me to make music that doesn't ask questions or encourage people to think or feel. Or rather, it's possible but it's not something I want to do. There are enough songs about commercialized dreams, fame and money. I never try to put myself in a box so while future songs will have the same integrity I love to explore sounds and styles so it's very possible my songs could be very different sounding. I honestly let my heart and intuition drive the bus because it's always seen me through. I'm already in the process of tracking some new music and look forward to sharing it in the new year!

Any last comments?

I'm so grateful to have a intuitive connection with the source, the great spirit, the great mystery of life. I'm so grateful to anyone who happens upon my music and makes the effort to understand me. No matter where I go with my music, I'll always be aligned with my souls heart, my third eye and my sixth sense. I've just begun my journey with music and I'm very excited to continue down the beauty path! I hope that listeners are able to hear my heart in my music and I wish everyone spiritual wealth and clarity in the new year!
